This past week brought us the Electronic Gaming Expo which was held at the Cape Town international Convention Centre. The Saturday kicked off with full force as gaming stands were quickly piled up and crowds formed at the various stands. The expo also held multiple tournaments, such as, Street Fighter V, Counter Strike Global Offensive, Mortal Kombat X and much more.

But let’s get to the topic at hand, Games! The PS4 stands were packed with people trying to get their hands on games such as Gravity Rush, Uncharted 4 and Doom. There were also video game trailers for Horizon Zero Dawn and Detroit, these two games captured people’s attention, with awesome graphics and enticing storylines. There was even a Lego gaming section to keep the little ones entertained.

I got my hands on a South African developed indie game called “Freedom of Depression Spread the Hate”. The game has a simple premise of taking over territory within a neighbourhood setting. You move door to door as quick as you can to either debate for the land or bribe the occupants. But, watch out! Territory can just as easily be taken from you. The game can be downloaded on the forum http://makegamessa.com for free.

The Street Fighter V tournament was insane. Hardcore gamers brought their arcade sticks and the will to win; each player came with new skills and imaginative combos which I could not counter. I made it through to round 2, only to be beat by a player using Chun Li. I stuck to my guns with the classic combo of flying kick, leg sweep, and any special move following it and occasionally switching it up. But the player was just too good and read all my moves.

My day at the expo was filled with lots more excitement, but, you can read that in another post. If you didn’t go, then you sorely missed out and have to wait a whole year to see stuff like this again in Cape Town.
